Ahh nothing will ever beat Jazz I tell ya!
You know, when you sit down & think, it actually takes more talent to play a Jazz standard with others than sit in a studio & write Rock music. In Jazz, you've simply got a harmonic "skeleton" to work with. Talkin with the guys about the chord changes & stuff, & then you get out there & play your soul through that instrument. I love watching the various performances of Jazz artists because each one is very different from another. If you want to play like the pros, music theory is definitely the way. It's wonderful to be able to look at how beautiful the framework is.
Now mind you I still agree with Einstein's bit about 1% inspiration & 99% perspiration, just sayin the knowledge gets you farther than you think.
